Joel Madden began dating Nicole Richie in 2006, shortly after his breakup with Hillary Duff. Their first child, a daughter, was born two years later. In 2009, the couple welcomed their second child, a son. The couple announced their engagement in 2010 and married the following year. Madden rose to prominence as the lead singer of the popular pop-punk band Good Charlotte in the early 2000s.
